In this lesson, you will learn how to find hidden words — a popular question type in CEM 11+ Verbal Reasoning. Hidden word questions test your ability to spot words concealed within other words or sentences.
A hidden word question gives you a sentence or a group of words, and asks you to find a word hidden across the letters. The hidden word is formed by consecutive letters that span across word boundaries.
Example:
"She came looking for help."
Can you find the hidden animal?
Look across the word boundaries: "She came looking" — the letters C-A-M-E-L spell camel!
CEM exams use hidden word questions because they test:
In CEM exams, these questions are often presented among other VR and English questions. The format can change, so be ready for different ways of asking.
The question will tell you what type of word to look for — an animal, colour, fruit, country, etc.
Move your finger (or your eyes) across the sentence, one letter at a time. Look for the hidden word spanning across the end of one word and the beginning of the next.
The hidden word could start at ANY letter. Do not just check the starts of words — check every single letter position.
