Prepositions in German are closely linked to the case system. Some prepositions always take the accusative, some always take the dative, and a group of nine can take either depending on whether movement or location is described. This lesson covers all three groups with examples.
These prepositions always take the accusative case:

| durch | through | Wir gehen durch den Park. |
| für | for | Das Geschenk ist für meinen Vater. |
| gegen | against | Ich bin gegen den Plan. |
| ohne | without | Ich gehe ohne meinen Freund. |
| um | around / at (time) | Wir sitzen um den Tisch. / Um sieben Uhr. |
| bis | until / by | Bis nächste Woche! |
| entlang | along (after noun) | Gehen Sie die Straße entlang. |
