5. Cultural Notes

German restaurants often serve Mineralwasser (mineral water) rather than tap water. If you want tap water, you must specifically ask for Leitungswasser, though it may not always be offered willingly.
Trinkgeld (tipping) is typically 5–10%, rounded up to a convenient amount. You tell the waiter the total you want to pay.
Biergärten (beer gardens) are a southern German tradition, particularly in Bavaria. Customers often bring their own food and just buy drinks.
