Being able to talk about the future is essential for GCSE Spanish. There are two main ways to express future plans: the near future (ir a + infinitive) and the simple future tense. This lesson covers both structures.
The near future is formed with the verb ir (to go) + a + infinitive. It expresses plans and intentions, similar to "going to" in English.
| Subject | ir | a + infinitive | English |
|---|---|---|---|
| yo | voy | a estudiar | I am going to study |
| tú | vas | a comer | you are going to eat |
| él/ella | va | a salir | he/she is going to go out |
| nosotros | vamos | a viajar | we are going to travel |
| vosotros | vais | a jugar | you all are going to play |
| ellos | van | a ver | they are going to watch |
