One of the most important uses of the condizionale presente in Italian is for politeness. Using the conditional softens your tone, making requests, orders, and opinions sound courteous rather than demanding. This lesson covers the key expressions you will need in everyday situations.
Vorrei is the single most useful conditional form in Italian. It is how you politely order, ask for things, and express wishes.

Mi piacerebbe is another way to say "I would like" and is particularly used for expressing enjoyment or pleasure. Remember that piacere works like gustare in Spanish — the thing you like is the grammatical subject.

Grammar note: Use mi piacerebbe + infinitive for actions, and mi piacerebbe + noun for things.

The conditional of dovere is used for giving gentle advice or expressing what one ought to do:
