Andare (to go) and venire (to come) are two of the most frequently used verbs in Italian. Both are irregular in the present tense, and mastering them is essential for everyday conversation.

Key observation: The singular forms and the loro form use the stem v- instead of and-. Only noi and voi keep the original stem.
Andare is typically followed by the preposition a (to) when indicating a destination:

Choosing the right preposition is essential:

Key observation: Venire has two irregularities — a -go ending in the io form (vengo) and an e → ie change in the tu and lui/lei forms (vieni, viene). Only noi and voi are regular.
