Unfortunately, many of the most common Italian verbs are irregular in the congiuntivo presente. The good news is that the patterns are learnable, and once you memorise the key verbs, you will recognise them instantly.
These are by far the most important irregular subjunctives. You will use them constantly.

Penso che lui sia intelligente. — I think he is intelligent. Credo che siano italiani. — I believe they are Italian. È possibile che Maria sia malata. — It's possible that Maria is ill.
