Subject pronouns are the words we use to replace the name of the person or thing performing an action — "I", "you", "he", "she", "we", "they" in English. Spanish has more subject pronouns than English because it distinguishes between formal and informal address, and between masculine and feminine groups.
| Person | Singular | Plural |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | yo (I) | nosotros/nosotras (we) |
| 2nd informal | tú (you) | vosotros/vosotras (you all) |
| 2nd formal | usted (you) | ustedes (you all) |
| 3rd | él (he), ella (she) | ellos/ellas (they) |
Tip: When in doubt, use usted. It is always better to be too polite than too informal.
One of the most important concepts in Spanish is the difference between informal and formal "you".
| Tú | Usted | |
