The -ER verb group is the second major family of regular verbs in Spanish. While there are fewer -ER verbs than -AR verbs, many of them are extremely common in daily conversation. The conjugation process is the same: remove the infinitive ending and add the present tense endings.
For example, with the verb comer (to eat):
| Subject Pronoun | Ending | Example with comer | Translation |
|---|---|---|---|
| yo | -o | como | I eat |
| tu | -es | comes | you eat |
| el / ella / usted | -e | come | he/she eats, you (formal) eat |
| nosotros / nosotras | -emos | comemos | we eat |
| vosotros / vosotras | -eis | comeis | you all eat |
| ellos / ellas / ustedes | -en | comen | they eat, you all (formal) eat |
