Practice bank for UCAT Quantitative Reasoning questions that present data as bar charts or line graphs. These questions test your ability to read values accurately and make comparisons.
Quick-Reference: Bar Charts and Line Graphs
Reading Bar Charts
Check the axes — identify what the x-axis and y-axis represent, including units and scale
Read values carefully — bars may not align exactly with gridlines; estimate to the nearest gridline
Stacked bars — the total is the top of the bar; individual segments are read by their height, not their position
Grouped bars — compare bars within each group and across groups
Reading Line Graphs
Identify each line — use the legend to distinguish between series
Read intersection points — where a line meets a vertical gridline is the data value
Trends — rising, falling, or flat; steeper slope = faster rate of change
Interpolation — estimate values between plotted points by reading the line
Common Questions
Type
What to do
Compare two values
Read both, subtract or find ratio
Find the biggest change
Calculate change for each interval, compare
Percentage increase
((New - Old) / Old) x 100
Combined total
Add all bar heights or read from a stacked bar
Strategy
Read the axis scale carefully — check whether it starts at zero
Use the grid to estimate values; do not guess
For percentage change, always divide by the OLD value
Target: 40 seconds per question
Practice
Complete the 20 assessment questions. Each describes a bar chart or line graph scenario and asks you to read or calculate values.
