Receiving a UCAT score below the median can be disheartening, but it does not mean your medical school application is over. Many successful doctors scored below average on the UCAT. What matters is how you respond strategically. This lesson covers what to do if your cognitive score is below approximately 1900 (roughly the median in recent cycles).
In recent UCAT cycles, the approximate distribution of total cognitive scores has been:
| Percentile | Approximate Score |
|---|---|
| 90th percentile | ~2400–2500 |
| 75th percentile | ~2150–2250 |
| 50th percentile (median) | ~1830–1910 |
| 25th percentile | ~1650–1750 |
| 10th percentile | ~1500–1600 |
Note: These figures are approximate and vary by year. Check the UCAT website for the most recent published statistics.
