UCAT Preparation Courses Now Available on LearningBro
Applying to medical or dental school in the UK? The University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) is a critical part of your application, and strong preparation can make a real difference to your score. We have just launched 31 UCAT preparation courses with 310 lessons and over 4,000 practice questions — every single question includes a detailed explanation so you understand exactly why each answer is correct.
What Is the UCAT?
The UCAT is a two-hour computer-based test used by the majority of UK medical and dental schools as part of their admissions process. From 2025, the test consists of four subtests:
- Verbal Reasoning — assesses your ability to read and critically evaluate written information
- Decision Making — tests logical reasoning, statistical interpretation, and evaluating arguments
- Quantitative Reasoning — measures your ability to solve numerical problems using data
- Situational Judgement Test (SJT) — evaluates your understanding of real-world medical scenarios and ethical dilemmas
The three cognitive subtests (VR, DM, QR) are each scored between 300 and 900, giving a total cognitive score range of 900–2700. The SJT is scored separately in Bands 1–4, with Band 1 being the strongest.
What Our UCAT Courses Cover
We have structured our preparation into courses covering every subtest in depth, plus dedicated practice banks and a university strategy guide.
Getting Started
UCAT Overview & Test Strategy introduces the test format, timing, scoring, and general strategies that apply across all four subtests. If you are new to the UCAT, start here.
UCAT Scores & Applications explains how universities use your UCAT score, what counts as a competitive score, and how to interpret your result in the context of your wider application.
Verbal Reasoning
Verbal Reasoning covers the core subtest: passage-based questions testing comprehension, inference, and critical evaluation under strict time pressure.
Reading Comprehension & Inference goes deeper into the reading skills you need — identifying main ideas, drawing inferences, and understanding how authors construct arguments.
True, False, Can't Tell focuses on the most common VR question type, teaching you a systematic method for evaluating statements against passage evidence.
Then put your skills to the test with our practice banks:
- VR Practice: Comprehension — 200 questions focused on passage comprehension
- VR Practice: Inference — 200 questions on inference and evaluation
- VR Timed Practice & Strategy — 200 questions with exam-style timing drills
Decision Making
Decision Making introduces the subtest format and the five question types: logical puzzles, syllogisms, interpreting information, recognising assumptions, and statistical reasoning.
Assumptions & Arguments teaches you how to identify hidden assumptions, evaluate the strength of arguments, and spot common reasoning errors.
Logical Reasoning & Deductions covers Venn diagrams, syllogisms, and logical deductions — the pure reasoning questions that many candidates find challenging.
Statistical & Probabilistic Reasoning addresses questions involving probability, correlation, causation, and interpreting data.
Practice banks:
- DM Practice: Logical Puzzles — 200 questions on logic and deductions
- DM Practice: Statistical Reasoning — 200 questions on data and probability
Quantitative Reasoning
Quantitative Reasoning covers the subtest structure: interpreting tables, charts, and graphs, then performing calculations under time pressure.
Data Interpretation focuses on extracting information from complex data presentations — multi-variable tables, combined charts, and multi-step data questions.
Mental Arithmetic & Estimation builds the rapid calculation skills you need, covering shortcuts, estimation techniques, and when to use the on-screen calculator.
Ratios, Percentages & Proportions targets the most frequently tested mathematical concepts in QR.
Practice banks:
- QR Practice: Data Interpretation — 200 questions on charts, tables, and graphs
- QR Practice: Arithmetic & Conversions — 200 questions on calculations, unit conversions, and estimation
Situational Judgement Test
Situational Judgement introduces the SJT format, scoring bands, and the medical ethics principles that underpin correct answers.
SJT Marking Scheme explains exactly how Band 1–4 scoring works, how partial credit is awarded, and how universities use your SJT band — essential knowledge for maximising your score.
Communication & Empathy covers patient-centred communication, breaking bad news, and demonstrating empathy in scenarios.
NHS Values & Ethics grounds you in the NHS Constitution values, Good Medical Practice, and the ethical frameworks that SJT questions are built around.
Patient Safety & Escalation teaches you when and how to escalate concerns — one of the most commonly tested themes.
Professional Integrity covers honesty, probity, recognising your limits, and handling pressure to act unprofessionally.
Team Dynamics & Conflict addresses working in teams, managing disagreements, and balancing hierarchy with patient safety.
Practice banks:
- SJT Practice: Question Bank — 200 scenario-based questions covering all SJT themes
- SJT Scenario Practice: Ranking — 200 ranking questions that mirror the real exam format
University Strategy
UCAT University Strategy Guide is unique to LearningBro. This course covers how 30+ UK medical schools weigh the UCAT in their admissions process — from high-threshold universities like Oxford and Cambridge to more accessible options. You will learn which universities prioritise UCAT scores, which have SJT cut-offs, and how to build a tactical shortlist of four medical schools based on your predicted score.
Every Question Has an Explanation
Every one of our 4,000+ UCAT questions includes a detailed explanation that appears after you answer. These are not just "the answer is B" — they walk you through the reasoning, explain why each incorrect option is wrong, and reinforce the strategies you need for exam day.
How the Courses Work
Each lesson combines clear explanations with practical strategies. Every lesson ends with multiple-choice questions that test your understanding. If you get stuck, the AI tutor can provide hints that guide you to the answer without giving it away.
Your progress is tracked across all courses, so you can see which subtests need more work and focus your revision where it matters most.
Who Are These Courses For?
- Year 12 students starting UCAT preparation early
- Year 13 applicants who want structured, comprehensive practice
- Graduate entry candidates returning to admissions testing
- Resitters who need to improve their score from a previous attempt
- Anyone on a budget who wants high-quality preparation without expensive tutoring or courses
