Being able to talk about the future and express hypothetical situations is essential for GCSE German. This lesson covers two ways to express the future, the conditional tense, and how to use if-clauses (Wenn-Sätze).
In everyday German, the present tense with a future time expression is the most natural way to talk about the future:
| German | English |
|---|---|
| Morgen spiele ich Fußball. | Tomorrow I'm playing football. |
| Nächste Woche fahre ich nach Berlin. | Next week I'm going to Berlin. |
| Im Sommer arbeite ich in einem Café. | In the summer I'm working in a café. |
For more emphasis or formal contexts, use werden + infinitive at the end:
