Model Opinion Sentences

• Me encanta el español porque es interesante y útil. — I love Spanish because it is interesting and useful.
• No me gustan las matemáticas porque son difíciles y aburridas. — I don't like maths because it is difficult and boring.
• Mi asignatura preferida es la historia porque el profesor es gracioso y las clases son interesantes. — My favourite subject is history because the teacher is funny and the lessons are interesting.
• Odio la física porque es demasiado complicada. — I hate physics because it is too complicated.

Exam tip: When using gustar and similar verbs, remember that the verb agrees with the THING liked, not the person. "Me gusta el español" (singular) but "Me gustan las ciencias" (plural). This is one of the most common grammatical errors at GCSE.

Model Paragraph — My School Day

Mi colegio se llama St. Peter's y es un instituto mixto bastante grande con unos mil estudiantes. Las clases empiezan a las nueve menos cinco y terminan a las tres y cuarto. Cada clase dura una hora y tenemos seis clases al día. El recreo es a las once y dura veinte minutos — normalmente hablo con mis amigos en el patio. La hora de comer es a la una y como en el comedor o a veces traigo un bocadillo de casa.
