Exam tip: Restaurant role-plays often include a "problem" element. Prepare 2–3 complaint phrases. Use "perdone" (excuse me — formal) to start a complaint politely. Using the conditional ("¿Me podría traer…?" = Could you bring me…?) shows excellent register.

4. The Set Menu (El menú del día)

In Spain, most restaurants offer a menú del día at lunchtime — a set menu at a fixed price (typically €10–15) that includes a starter, main course, dessert, bread and a drink. This is excellent value and is used by workers and students throughout Spain. It is a key cultural concept for GCSE.
