Lexical Resource is assessed on your ability to use vocabulary flexibly, precisely, and with natural collocations. The examiner is not looking for obscure or sophisticated words — they are looking for evidence that you can communicate complex ideas effectively and that you can paraphrase, use idiomatic language, and choose words appropriately.

Collocations — words that naturally go together — are essential for Band 7+. The examiner notices when you use natural word partnerships and when you do not.

Non-collocating (sounds unnatural):
"Technology has made a big effect on education."
Collocating (sounds natural):
"Technology has had a profound impact on education."
Both convey the same meaning, but the second demonstrates natural vocabulary use.
Paraphrasing — expressing the same idea in different words — is specifically mentioned in the Band 7 descriptors. You should paraphrase:
Synonyms:
"Children" → "young people" → "the younger generation" → "minors"
Changing word form:
"Educate" → "education" → "educational" → "the learning process"
Restructuring:
"Many people use social media" → "Social media is widely used" → "There is widespread use of social media"
Describing the concept:
"Commute" → "the daily journey between home and work"
