Physical Appearance: The Basics

To describe someone's general appearance, Italian uses the verbs essere (to be) and avere (to have):

Tip: Be careful with "grasso" — it can sound blunt. Italians often soften descriptions: "un po' robusto" (a bit stocky) or "in carne" (fleshy, plump) are more tactful alternatives.
