Congratulations on completing this course! You have built a solid foundation in Italian conversation and reading comprehension. You can now engage in small talk, express opinions, tell stories, make plans, handle disagreements, read real-world texts, navigate formal and informal registers, and use common idioms. But this is just the beginning — language learning is a lifelong journey. This lesson provides you with resources, strategies, and recommendations for continuing your Italian learning beyond this course.
Before planning your next steps, it helps to understand where you stand. Use the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) as a guide:
| Level | Description | Can Do |
|---|---|---|
| A1 | Beginner | Basic greetings, simple questions, survival phrases |
| A2 | Elementary | Simple conversations, everyday topics, basic reading |
| B1 | Intermediate | Express opinions, narrate events, handle most travel situations |
| B2 | Upper Intermediate | Discuss abstract topics, understand news, write formal texts |
| C1 | Advanced | Nuanced expression, complex texts, professional use |
| C2 | Mastery | Near-native fluency in all contexts |
After completing this course, you should be comfortable at the A2–B1 range for conversation topics and reading comprehension. Your next goal should be to consolidate B1 and push towards B2.
The single most effective way to improve is immersion — surrounding yourself with Italian as much as possible.
| Strategy | How to Do It | Time Investment |
|---|---|---|
| Change your phone language | Settings → Language → Italiano | 0 minutes (passive) |
| Listen to Italian music | Create a playlist on Spotify | 15–30 min/day |
| Watch Italian TV | Use Netflix/Amazon with Italian audio | 30–60 min/day |
| Read Italian news | One article from Il Post or ANSA | 10–15 min/day |
| Think in Italian | Narrate your daily routine internally | Throughout the day |
| Journal in Italian | Write 5–10 sentences about your day | 10–15 min/day |
| Follow Italian social media | Instagram, TikTok, YouTube creators | Passive / as you browse |
Choose one hour per day where everything you do is in Italian — listening, reading, thinking. Even if you are just doing household chores, put on an Italian podcast or radio station. Consistency matters more than intensity.
