Registering for and booking the LNAT involves several steps, and understanding the timeline, fees, and logistics is important to ensure you sit the test on time. This lesson covers everything you need to know about the administrative side of the LNAT.
Before you can book a test, you need to create an account on the LNAT website (lnat.ac.uk). This involves:
Important: Make sure the name you register with matches the name on the identification you will bring to the test centre. Any discrepancy may prevent you from sitting the test.
During registration, you will be asked to list the LNAT universities you are applying to. This is how your scores and essay are sent to the right places.
Key Point: You can update your university choices after registration but before you sit the test. Once you have completed the test, your choices are locked. Make sure your list is correct before test day.
After registering, you book a test slot at a Pearson VUE test centre. This is done through the Pearson VUE website (not the LNAT website).
The LNAT testing window for each admissions cycle typically runs from 1 September to 31 January (approximately). Specific dates vary slightly each year.
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| 1 August | Registration opens on lnat.ac.uk |
| 1 September | Testing window opens at Pearson VUE centres |
| 15 September | Recommended last date to register for Oxford/Cambridge applicants |
| 15 October | UCAS deadline for Oxford/Cambridge; LNAT must be sat by this date |
| 31 December | LSE's recommended LNAT deadline for guaranteed equal consideration |
| Mid-January | Registration closes (exact date varies) |
| 25 January | Last available test date for most January-deadline universities |
| 31 January | UCAS deadline for most other LNAT universities |
Critical Warning: Popular test centres and dates fill up quickly, especially in September and October. If you are applying to Oxford or Cambridge, book your test as early as possible — ideally in August as soon as registration opens. Do not assume there will be availability close to the 15 October deadline.
The LNAT test fee depends on the location of the test centre, not your nationality or country of residence.
| Test Centre Location | Fee |
|---|---|
| UK or EU | £75 |
| Rest of the world | £120 |
The LNAT offers financial support for candidates who would find it difficult to pay the test fee:
